More Information
Overview ADIURETIN comprises a drug called desmopressin, which belongs to a class of drugs known as synthetic antidiuretic peptides. It is an analogue of 8-arginine vasopressin (ADH), an antidiuretic hormone that influences renal water conservation. It is used to treat diabetes insipidus, which causes excessive thirst and the generation of large amounts of dilute urine, as well as primary nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting from age of 5). Desmopressin works by lowering the amount of water the kidneys excrete in the urine. It improves water reabsorption in the kidneys. This could result in a buildup of water in the body, diluting the salt levels and perhaps causing significant issues or convulsions. The most common negative effects of this medication include headaches, stomach pain, and ankle edoema. If you have a blood disease or are above the age of 65, do not use this medication. Before using, see your doctor.
Benefits Desmopressin functions similarly to natural anti-diuretic hormone. Desmopressin functions as a selective agonist of V2 receptors in the renal distal tubule and collecting ducts after intranasal injection. Desmopressin binding to V2 receptors promotes the synthesis of adenylyl cyclase, resulting in greater water reabsorption and decreased urine output.
  • Diabetes insipidus (a condition with extreme thirst and continuous production of large volumes of dilute urine)
  • Primary nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting from the age of 5)
